The College of American Pathologists is providing laboratory and terminology expertise to hospital laboratories participating in this project. CAP's focus is in aiding hospital laboratories with choosing the appropriate LOINC codes corresponding to their respective public health reportable tests. LOINC codes will be specific to testing methodology, sample type, units of measure as needed for electronic laboratory reporting. In most cases, CDC's reportable mapping condition table can be utilized in this process. CAP will also work with laboratories mapping these LOINC encoded public health reportables to their local data dictionary. CAP is also contributing to education from a hospital laboratory perspective.
